Cyprus Citizenship in 3 Years: New Fast-Track Naturalization Rules for Highly Skilled Professionals

• after 3 years of legal residency in Cyprus, provided the applicant has confirmed Greek language proficiency at B1 level; or
• after 4 years of residency, with Greek language proficiency at A2 level.

This is considerably shorter than the standard naturalization timeline, which in most cases is 7 years. Notably, short-term absences from the island do not create complications: absences of up to 90 days per year do not interrupt or reset the accumulated residency period required for the application. Please remember to add 12 months of residence on the island prior to the application date to the specified timeframes.

Opportunities for Families

The program takes into account the interests not only of the professional but of their family as well:

• spouses, as well as officially registered partners, may also apply for citizenship, provided the established requirements are met;
• children who turn 18 while their parents’ application is still under review do not lose their right to citizenship — they can obtain it through a special simplified registration procedure.

Additional Requirements for Applicants

In addition to the residency period and language proficiency, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• good standing and a clean criminal record;
• confirmed financial self-sufficiency;
• proof of permanent accommodation in Cyprus and intent to continue residing there;
• successful completion of a Greek language exam (A2 or B1 level);
• successful completion of an exam on the history, culture, and governmental structure of the Republic of Cyprus.

Processing Time

For highly skilled professionals, an expedited review procedure is available. According to preliminary estimates, the process takes approximately up to 8 months from the submission of a complete set of documents — significantly faster than standard naturalization processing times.
