Income Tax Return in Cyprus for 2025: Who Is Required to File

In 2026, taxpayers in Cyprus are required to submit their income tax return for the 2025 tax year. Below is an overview of who must file, what income should be reported, and the applicable deadlines.

Who Is Required to File a Tax Return

The following individuals are required to submit a tax return:

  • Cyprus tax residents whose total worldwide income exceeds €19,500
  • Cyprus tax non-residents who have taxable income arising from sources in Cyprus
  • Self-employed individuals engaged in business or professional activities

Tax Period and Deadlines

The tax period covers the timeframe from 1 January to 31 December 2025.
The deadline for filing the tax return and paying any tax due is 31 July 2026.

What Income Must Be Reported

The following types of income must be included in the tax return:

  • salaries, bonuses, and benefits from employment
  • income from business and freelance activities
  • rental income
  • pensions and other remuneration
  • foreign income (for tax residents)
  • dividends and interest (as exempt from income tax)

Who Is Generally Not Required to File

In most cases, a tax return is not required for:

  • individuals with income up to €19,500 (provided there are no other obligations)
  • non-residents with no Cyprus-source income
  • individuals with no taxable income

Late Payment Consequences

Any tax due must be paid by 31 July 2026. Failure to do so will result in penalties and interest charges.

Possible Deadline Extensions and New Rules

The deadline for submitting the 2025 tax return may be extended during 2026, so it is advisable to monitor official updates.

Please also note that from 2026, changes to the filing requirements have come into effect, including updates to the categories of individuals required to file tax returns. In addition, new penalties already apply to returns submitted in 2026 for the 2025 tax year.
